Annapolis, Md. (December 5, 2017)--The Mount St. Mary's women's indoor track and field team had several strong performances at the Navy LidLifter to open the 2017-18 season. Freshman sprinter Kayla Barnes moved into the Mount's top 10 in both the 60m and 200 dash to lead the way.
Barnes opened her collegiate career by finishing in second place in the 60m dash with a time of 7.77 seconds. That mark is good for fifth all-time on the Mount's indoor record list. She then finished third in the 200m dash with a time of 25.40 seconds, good for fourth all-time at the Mount.
The trio of Ashlynn Cook, Brittany Smith and Chelsea Wright opened the year strong in the high jump for the Mountaineers. Cook was second with a mark of 1.55m while Smith and Wright tied for third by clearing 1.50m.
Elizabeth Shodiya had a long jump mark of 5.53m to finish in fourth place, Chardane Logan was fifth in the 500m run (1:19.54) and Erin Sample fifth in the shot put (13.38m). Moriah Fitzgerald tied her indoor personal best mark by clearing 3.55m to finish third in the pole vault. Mariah McLane was seventh in the 400m dash with Clarke Hooper finishing seventh in the 1000m run.
