Lexington, Ky. (May 25, 2017)—The Mount St. Mary's University track and field team closed out the 2017 season at the NCAA East Preliminary Round at the University of Kentucky today. The Mount had three seniors competing, Natalia Hinton (long jump), Julian Woods (400m hurdles) and Kelly Yanucil (javelin).
Yanucil, who earned Second Team All-America honors in the javelin last year, finished in 19th place. Yanucil's best throw of the competition was 45.43m (149') on her second attempt. This is the third year in a row she has qualified for the East Preliminary.
Woods competed in the 400m hurdles, finishing 34th in the field of 48 competitors. Woods finished sixth in his heat with a time of 53.42 seconds.
Hinton competed in the long jump for the Mountaineers, finishing in 43rd place in the field of 48 competitors. Her best jump of the evening was her first, which registered 5.74m (18' 10").
To move on to the finals, competitors had to finish in the top 12.
