High Point, N.C. (April 1, 2017)—Kelly Yanucil and Brian Sagendorf each won the javelin to pace the Mount St. Mary's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams at the VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point University on Friday and Saturday.
Yanucil, a second team All-American last year, won the javelin on Friday night with a toss of 48.13m that puts her in position for the NCAA East Preliminary Round. Moriah Fitzgerald set a personal best with a mark of 3.70m in the pole vault, finishing in eighth place and qualifying for the ECAC Championships. Clarke Hooper won her section of the 800m and finished in 12th place in the event with a time of 2:18.37 while Erin Sample was sixth in the shot put (13.08m).
For the men, Brian Sagendorf had a winning throw of 64.50m to take home first place honors in the javelin and put him in position for a spot in the NCAA East Preliminary. Julian Woods again had a strong showing in the hurdles, finishing second in the 400m hurdles (53.14) and fourth in the 110m hurdles (14.53).
The men's 4x100m relay team of Keiko Martin, Justin Kimble, Andrew Lapreziosa and D.J. Workcuff was fifth with a time of 42.05 seconds, an IC4A qualifying mark. Kimble finished eighth in the 200m dash (21.80) with Workcuff placing 12th (22.01). Nicolas Fransham was fifth in the 10,000m run with a time of 32:08.07, good for 10th on the Mount's all-time list. Brenden Chavis placed fifth in the hammer throw (53.89m) with Chase Boyle eighth (55.75m).
