College Park, Md. (March 30, 2013)—Sprinters Jessica Whitmore and Genamarie McCant led the way for the Mount St. Mary's outdoor track and field team at the Maryland Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Whitmore took home first place in the 100-meter dash, winning with an ECAC qualifying time of 12.04 seconds. Not to be outdone, McCant won both the 200-meter and 400-meter dash. McCant had a winning time of 25.11 seconds in the 200 and followed with a time of 55.99 seconds to win the 400.
Helena Leyrer had a solid meet for the Mountaineers as well, finishing second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.64 seconds and placing fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a mark of 1:04.26.
Chantel Lipkins was second in the long jump (5.38m) while Corie Scharpf finished tied for fourth in the high jump. On the men's side, Scott Rice was third in the pole vault with Jon Fernandez placing fifth in the hammer throw.
The Mount returns to action next week at the Colonial Relays.
