Mount Track Has Good First Day at Wake Forest Open

Winston Salem, N.C. (March 15, 2013)--The Mount St. Mary's men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2013 season at the Wake Forest Open on Friday. 

Jessica Whitmore finished fifth in the 100m dash with a time of 11.94 seconds.  She had qualified for the finals in the 100m dash with the time of 12.10 seconds, the third-fastest time in the field of 77 runners in the preliminaries.  Teammate Genamarie McCant had the 11th-best time in the preliminaries with a mark of 12.54, missing the finals by .08 seconds.

Megan Kinsella placed sixth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:21.63. 

McKenzie Doyle was 15th in the 5000m run (18:26.04) with Megan Schott finishing 19th (18:37.15) in the field of 52 runners.  Helena Leyrer had the 12th best time in the 110m hurdles (15.01), Teika Robinson was 14th in the long jump and Allie Donahue 17th in the hammer throw. 

On the men's side, Jon Fernandez highlighted the performances by finishing fifth in the javelin with a toss of 63.94m.  Alex Gregro was 16th in the long jump with Fernandez placing 13th in the hammer throw (46.81m).

The meet concludes on Saturday.
