Yam Leads Women's Swimming Past St. Francis (N.Y.), 112-95

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Patricia Yam (Placenta, Calif./Rosary) won two individual events to lead the Mount St. Mary's women's swimming team past St. Francis (N.Y.) 112-95 in Northeast Conference (NEC) women's swimming action on Saturday.

Yam registered two first-place finishes in the 400 IM (5:00.96) and the 200 fly (2:13.68). Yam also led off the winning 200-medley relay (1:58.18) and was followed by Molly Kirstiniak (Oreland, Pa./Gwynedd Mercy Academy), Mollie Walsh (Havertown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll), and Joanna Hale (Voornees,N.J./Eastern).

Courtney Griffith (Westminster, Md./Westminster) placed first place in the 100 free (54.82), Chelsea Marrocco (Old Bridge, N.J. /Red Bank Catholic) finished first in the 1000 free (12:05.66) and Walsh registered a first in the 200 back (2:18.01).

Victoria Shaw Malvern, Pa. (Villa Maria Academy) placed second in the 200 free (2:10.50) and the 200 breast (2:52.30). Shaw also registered a third place in the 400 IM (5:27.21).

Murphy Alafoginis (Lawrenceville, Pa./Wellsboro Area) placed second in the 500 free (5:54.82) and third in the 200 free (2:11.91).

Cat Coppler (Enfield, Conn./Enrico Fermi) was second in the 200 back (2:21.26).

Nicole Helmick (Hampstead, Md. /North Carroll) registered a third-place standing in the 100 free (1:04.70) and Kristiniak placed third in the 200 back (2:53.40).

In the 200-freestyle relay, Alafoginis, Alyssa Cummin (Ramstein, Germany /Ramstein), Hale, and Griffith finished first (1:46.94) while Jessica Gardner (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill), Helmick, Walsh and Coppler were third in the same event (1:47.59).

Mount St. Mary's will go back into action Feb. 17-19 at the NEC Swimming and Diving Championship.
