Mount St. Mary's heads to Bucknell for a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday.  The Mount has won four of its past five games to move to 17-20 on the season.

MOUNT UPDATE: The Mount went 3-1 over the weekend in a pair of Northeast Conference doubleheaders to move to 17-20 overall and 4-4 in the NEC.  The Mount swept Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday before posting a split with defending NEC champion Saint Francis U on Sunday.  Shelbee Holcomb leads the Mount with a .442 average while Lindsay Heinze is hitting .342 with nine home runs and 26 RBI. Morgan Alisauckas paces the Mount with 32 RBI while hitting .339.  Katie Olson (3-3, 2.49 ERA) and Amanda Berkley (8-10, 3.46 ERA) have led the pitching staff.

ABOUT THE BISON:  Bucknell leads the Patriot League with a perfect 9-0 record while holding a 19-15 overall mark this season.  The Bison are coming off a three-game sweep of Lafayette this past weekend.  Pitcher Raeanne Geffert struck out 23 batters in 12 innings of work in the Lafayette series.  She is 11-8 with a 2.09 ERA this season with 119 strikeouts in 130.1 innings.  Allyse Volpe leads the offense with a .385 average while Anna Gimmestad is hitting .350 with four home runs and 23 RBI.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES VS. BUCKNELL:  Bucknell holds a 27-7-1 lead in the all-time series that began in 1989.  The Bison are 7-0-1 over the past eight games against the Mount.  The Mount's last win over Bucknell was an 8-3 win on the road in the first game of a doubleheader on April 27, 2004.  The Mount is 4-12 all-time on the road against Bucknell.

LAST YEAR'S MEETING VS. BUCKNELL:  Megan Black singled home the tying run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give the Mount St. Mary's softball team a 4-4 tie with Bucknell in the second game of a doubleheader that was called after seven innings due to darkness.  The Mount lost the opening game, 12-8, despite scoring eight times in the fifth inning to rally from an 8-0 deficit.  Megan Kovac went 5-for-5 with three doubles, a home run and six RBI to lead Bucknell to the 12-8 win in the opening game.  Her two-run double in the sixth snapped the 8-8 tie to propel Bucknell to the win.  In the second game, Bucknell held a 4-2 lead before the Mount scored single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to earn the tie.  For a full recap, click HERE.

HOLCOMB LEADS NEC IN HITTING:  Junior Shelbee Holcomb has been on fire at the plate for the Mountaineers.  Holcomb leads the Northeast Conference with a .442 average (42-for-95) this year while adding eight doubles, two home runs and 18 RBI.  Holcomb has a .485 on-base percentage and a .589 slugging percentage on the year.  She is hitting .500 (12-for-24) in eight Northeast Conference games.

STATISTICALLY SPEAKING:  Freshman Kaia Bonshock is hitting .404 over the Mount's past 22 games…Lindsay Heinze has reached base in each of the past 22 games while Kaylee Stoner has reached base in 18 consecutive contests…Stoner is hitting .417 over the past 10 games for the Mount with two doubles, two triples and eight runs scored…Morgan Alisauckas has nine RBI over the past six contests…The Mountaineers are averaging 7.00 runs over the past six games, and are second in the NEC with 5.46 runs per game this year… Alisauckas has moved into second on the Mount's all-time hit list with 168 career hits…Heinze is right behind her with 167 career hits…Amanda Burk (2006-09) is the all-time leader with 193 career hits.

LIGHTING UP THE SCOREBOARD:  The Mountaineers scored a season-high 22 runs in the Mount's 22-4 win over Coppin State in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader.  The 22 runs are the most by a Mount during head coach Anna Nagro's tenure, and the most by a Mount team since a 30-0 victory over Coppin State on March 27, 2008  The Mount pounded out 19 hits in the game, with 12 different players recording at least one hit in the contest.

BERKLEY NAMED NEC CO-PITCHER OF THE WEEK:  Sophomore Amanda Berkley (Olney, Md.) has been named the Northeast Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week.  Berkley went 3-0 with a 1.56 ERA in three starts last week for the Mountaineers.  Berkley tossed a pair of complete games, and held the opposition to a .227 batting average. Berkley pitched a complete game with six strikeouts in the Mount's 5-2 win over FDU. She retired 17 batters in a row during the contest. She followed by allowing one run in five innings in the Mount's 9-1 win over Saint Francis U. She opened the week by allowing one run in a complete-game win over Cornell on Wednesday.  Berkley is the first Mountaineer to win NEC Pitcher of the Week honors since Nicole Pagano won the award on March 24, 2014.  She joins Pagano, Maria Lutz and Jamie Fowler as the only Mount pitchers to earn an NEC Pitcher of the Week award since the Mount joined the league in 1989-90.

HEINZE AND ALISAUCKAS MOVING UP HOME RUN CHART:  Senior Lindsay Heinze and graduate student Morgan Alisauckas continue to move up the Mount's career home run chart.  Heinze has a team-high nine home runs this year, giving her 25 for her career.  She has moved into a tied for second place on the list with Liz Christiansen (2009-13).   Alisauckas has five home runs this year, giving her 22 for her career, which is good for fourth all-time at the Mount.  Current assistant coach Rachel Heinze is the all-time leader with 43 career home runs.

HEINZE MATCHES CAREER RBI RECORD:  Lindsay Heinze has 26 RBI this season, giving her 121 over her four-year career.  Her 121 career RBI are now tied for the Mount's all-time record with cousin Rachel Heinze, who had 121 for the Mount from 2014-17.

HEINZE BREAKS CAREER DOUBLES RECORD:  Senior Lindsay Heinze hit a pair of doubles in the Mount's 11-0 win over Maryland Eastern Shore on March 13 to break the Mount's all-time record for two-base hits.  Heinze now has 41 career doubles, topping the mark of 39 that was set by Amanda Burk (2006-09).

PRESEASON POLL:  The Mount was tabbed to finish in seventh in the annual Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.  Sacred Heart was the unanimous pick to win it all, followed by LIU Brooklyn, Saint Francis U, Central Connecticut, Bryant, Fairleigh Dickinson, the Mount, Wagner and Robert Morris.  The Mount finished tied for sixth in the NEC standings last year with a 7-9 league record.

HEAD COACH ANNA NAGRO:  Nagro is in her ninth season at the helm of the Mount softball program, the longest tenure by a head coach in the history of the program.  Nagro has led the Mount to 37 wins over the past two seasons, including 20 in 2017, the most by a Mount team since the 2010 campaign.
