Mount Softball Heads to Morgan State on Tuesday Afternoon

MOUNT UPDATE:  Mount St. Mary's opened Northeast Conference play with a doubleheader split at defending NEC champion LIU Brooklyn on Sunday.  The Mount scored five times in the top of the eighth inning for a 9-4 win in the opening game before falling 3-2 on a walk-off single in game two.  Sam Lichtner tossed a complete game to earn the win in the opening game against LIU, and is now 6-5 with a 3.92 ERA on the season.  Rachel Heinze leads the Mount with a .369 average and seven home runs while Kaylee Stoner is hitting .367 on the year.

MORGAN STATE UPDATE:  Morgan State swept a three-game series with Hampton to improve to 12-10 overall and 3-0 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference this past weekend.  Amy Begg picked up the win in all three games against Howard, and has been the winning pitcher in each of the games during Morgan State's current five-game win streak.  Begg is 11-5 with a 1.93 ERA in 101.1 ininngs pitched this season.  Audrianna Alvarez leads the team with a .303 average and 13 RBI while Damali Young is hitting .294 while stealing 25 bases.

ALL-TIME SERIES:  The Mount holds a 14-13 lead in the all-time series with Morgan State since the Mountaineers moved to NCAA Division I in 1988-89.  Morgan State edged the Mount, 7-6, in six innings on Sunday, March 26, at Our Lady of the Meadows Field.  The Mount is 4-4 all-time on the road against the Bears, but have not played at Morgan State since splitting a doubleheader on March 21, 2009.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Freshman Kaylee Stoner was named the NEC Rookie of the Week after hitting .400 in a 3-1 week for the Mountaineers.  Click HERE for the full release.
