March 11, 2017--Rachel Heinze homered in each game, but it was not enough as the Mount St. Mary's softball team dropped a pair of one-run games on Saturday. The Mount saw La Salle rally for four runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 5-4 victory in the first game of the day before being edged by Indiana State by the same score later in the day.
Against La Salle, Shea McFarland doubled to lead off the game, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a Jessica Greenewald sacrfice fly. After the Explorers evened the score in the bottom of the first, the Mount regained the lead on Rachel Heinze's first homer of the day, a solo shot in the third.
Morgan Alisauckas and Shelbee Holcomb each had RBI singles in the fifth to stretch the Mount lead to 4-1. La Salle, however, took advantage of a hit batsman and a pair of walks to score four times in the seventh to rally for the win.
Against Indiana State, the Mount saw a late rally come up short in a 5-4 loss. The Mount (4-12) grabbed the lead in the bottom of the third on a Rachel Heinze solo homer. Indiana State tied the game with a run in the fourth and took a 5-1 lead with four runs in the fifth.
In the bottom of the seventh, Rachel Heinze and Lindsay Heinze each singled to put runners on first and second with no outs. After a ground out moved the runners over, Marian Ruf's RBI groundout scored Rachel Heinze to make it 5-4. The Mount was unable to push home the tying run, and Indiana State was able to hold on for the win.
