Mount St. Mary's Softball Downs Youngstown State, 8-1; Falls to Bucknell, 4-0

Rock Hill, S.C. (February 26, 2017)—The Mount St. Mar's softball team split a pair of games today at the Winthrop/Adidas Tournament.  After falling to Bucknell, 4-0, the Mount responded with an 8-1 victory over Youngstown State.  The Mount finished with a 2-2 record at the tournament.

GM1:  Bucknell 4, Mount St. Mary's 0

Bucknell scored single runs in the first and second innings, and added two more in the third, to post a 4-0 win over the Mount in the first game today.  Sam Lichtner tossed a complete game for the Mount, allowing three earned runs with a pair of strikeouts..

The Mount's best chance to score came in the bottom of the first when Jessica Greenewald and Rachel Heinze singled to put runners on first and second with no outs.  The Bison were able to escape the jam with a fly out and a pair of groundouts.

GM2:  Mount St. Mary's 8, Youngstown State 1

Morgan Alisauckas and Emilee Kirk each homered to lead the Mount past Youngstown State, 8-1.  Freshman Jordan Weaver earned her first collegiate win, allowing one run with six strikeouts.

The Mount took a 2-0 lead in the second when Lindsay Heinze doubled and Kirk followed with a two-run homer to left center.  The Mountaineers made it 3-0 when Kirk's single up the middle plated pinch-runner Devon Hutchins.

Alisauckas drilled a two-run homer in the fifth to build the lead to 5-0.  Jessica Greenewald singled to open the inning, and Alisauckas homered to center field, her second long ball of the season.

After the Penguins scored in the top of the sixth to make it 5-1, the Mount sealed the win with three runs in the bottom of the inning.  Kirk singled and Jessica Nines reached on an error to put runners on first and second.  After the runners moved up on a groundout, Lexi Donovan's bunt single plated pinch-runner Kaylee Cross for a 6-1 lead. Alisauckas then laced a two-run double to round out the scoring in the game.

Kirk went 3-for-3 with three RBI in the win while Alisauckas went 2-for-4 with four RBI.

The Mount is back in action at the North Florida Invitational next weekend.  The Mountaineers play La Salle and Albany on Friday.
