MOUNT UPDATE:  The Mount opens the 2017 season at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational.  Mount St. Mary's finished the 2016 season 15-35 overall and 6-10 in the Northeast Conference.  Rachel Heinze is the Mount's top returnee after a record-breaking 2016 season for the Mountaineers.  She led the team with a .347 average, 44 runs scored, 12 doubles, 19 home runs, 40 RBI and 12 stolen bases.  Heinze's 19 home runs smashed both the Mount's and the NEC's single-season record for homers.  The previous NEC mark was 16 set by Wagner's Andrea Lazzari (2009) while the Mount record of 11 was set by Liz Christiansen in 2010.  She was named First Team All-NEC at the utility position, the NEC's Most Improved Player, Second Team All-ECAC at utility, and Third Team All_Region.  The Mount's top returning pitchers are Sam Lichtner (6-13, 5.48 ERA) and Marian Ruf (6-11, 6.18 ERA).

THE OPPONENTS:  The Mount will face North Carolina Central, Eastern Kentucky, Bucknell and Youngstown State at the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational.

North Carolina Central:  The Eagles come into the Winthrop Tournament with a 1-5 record. They went 1-4 in the recent Campbell invitational tournament winning their only game against MD Eastern Shore 6-4. Miriam Duen is currently hitting .385 while Ryann Kostandin has a team best .421 on base percentage.

Eastern Kentucky:  Eastern Kentucky is currently 0-5 on the year coming off of a close 1-2 loss to Monmouth University giving up the game winning run in the last inning. Mia Sanchez comes into the tournament batting .368 with seven hits while Rachel Minogue has five RBIs and a slugging percentage of .545

Bucknell:  Bucknell is entering the weekend with a 4-1 record after completing the Gardner-Webb tournament defeating Hampton twice 5-0 and 5-4. Paulina Gutkin leads the offense with an outstanding .600 average with nine hits and five RBIs through the first five games of the season for the Bison. Lara Bean leads the defense with a 3-0 record and a 1.43 era allowing only 4 runs thus far in the season. '

Youngstown State: The Penguins are 0-5 going into the Winthrop Tournament with a team batting average of .188 and have hit 3 home runs. Cali Mikovich is currently hitting .313 on the season off of 16 at bats while Caitlyn Minney is pitching a 3.89 era and is 0-2 on the year.

All-Time Series:  The Mountaineers played North Carolina Central back in 2010 where the Mount went 3-0 in the series (12-0, 8-0, and 8-4). This will be the second meeting between the Mountaineers and the Colonels, the first being back in 2003 with the Mount falling, 6-1. The Mount will play Bucknell for the 33rd time and have an all-time record of 7-25 thus far in the series vs the Bison. The second meeting between the Mountaineers and the Penguins will be played in the Winthrop Tournament, the last meeting ended in a 4-2 loss for the Mountaineers.

Preseason Poll:  The NEC Coaches preseason poll ranked The Mount's softball team ninth with LIU Brooklyn picked as the repeat favorites from last year.

Season Openers: The Mountaineers are 2-4 in home openers under Coach Anna Nagro since 2011 with the last season-opening win coming in a 3-2 victory over Bethune-Cookman in 2014. 

Up Next:  The Mountaineers begin their road stretch by traveling to Jacksonville, Fla. to play in the North Florida Invitational where they will face off against La Salle, Albany, Western Carolina, and North Florida.
