Men's Swimming & Diving Sets Pair of School Records on Opening Day of CCSA Championships

DAY 1 RESULTS

Lynchburg, Va. (February 20, 2019) -- The Mount St. Mary's men's swimming & diving team set new school records in both relay events on the opening day of the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Championships on Wednesday. The Mountaineers sit in sixth place in the team standings through one day of competition.

The Mountaineers opened things up with a sixth-place finish in the 800 free relay as Andrew Jones, Will Twizell, Brock Cudahy, and Ryan Griffiths combined for a time of 7:00.19, which narrowly clipped the previous program record of 7:00.43, which was set at last year's CCSA Championships.

The second school record to fall on the opening night came in the 200 medley relay. Jonathan Mata, Twizell, Ryan Carroll, and Peter Jones posted a time of 1:32.96 to take sixth place in the event. The mark broke the previous record of 1:33.69, which was set earlier this season at the Loyola H2ounds Invitational.

In the 800 free relay, the Mount's 'B' relay squad of Matt Hart, Matt Wehmeyer, Luke Smist, and Nicholas Starvaggi registered a time of 7:31.45. In the 200 medley relay, the 'B' relay squad of Ethan Pham, Ian Schirra, Thomas de Xavier, and John Wilson combined for a time of 1:35.44.
