Men’s Swimming & Diving Rounds Out Day One of Loyola Invitational in Fifth Place

Baltimore, Md. (November 30, 2018) – The Mount St. Mary's men's swimming & diving team rounded out day one of the Loyola H2ounds Invitational on Friday night in fifth place.

The Mountaineers had five swimmers place among the top-20 in the 50 free, led by Peter Jones' seventh-place showing in a time of 21.36. Ryan Griffiths finished 12th (21.81), Ryan Carroll tied for 16th (21.97), Brock Cudahy tied for 18th (22.00), and Jonathan Mata placed 20th (22.02) in the event.

In the 500 free, John Wilson touched the wall in 4:57.90 to earn the Mount's top finish and take 19th place overall, while Nicholas Starvaggi finished 21st in 5:00.52.

Ian Schirra posted the team's top performance in the 200 IM, racing to a time of 2:06.89 to place 24th in the event.

In the 400 medley relay, Griffiths, Will Twizell, Carroll and Andrew Jones combined for a time of 3:27.58 to earn a sixth-place finish.

The relay squad of Andrew Jones, Peter Jones, Starvaggi and Matt Hart registered an eighth-place showing in the 800 free relay with a time of 7:38.71.

The Mountaineers wrap up the final day of the H2ounds Invitational tomorrow (Dec. 1), with action starting at 10 a.m.
