Men’s Swimming & Diving Places Third at Franklin & Marshall Invitational

Lancaster, Pa. (November 18, 2018) – The Mount St. Mary's men's swimming & diving team finished in third place at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational after closing out the final night of competition on Sunday.

The Mount finished with 1036 team points to claim third place for the second straight year. University of Mary Washington won the invite with 1413.5 points, and Franklin & Marshall took second with 1099.5 points.

Freshman Ryan Griffiths set a new Mount program record in the 200 back, clocking in at 1:55.82 to take fourth place in the event. The rookie first broke the previously-held record of 1:58.69 in preliminary heats, before besting that time in the finals.

Will Twizell earned a pair of top-two finishes on the final day of the invite. The junior won the 200 IM in 1:51.87, and finished second in the 100 breast with a time of 55.85. Three other Mountaineers joined Twizell among the top-20 in both events. In the 200 IM, John Wilson finished sixth (1:57.95), Ryan Carroll placed 11th (1:59.79), and Ethan Pham claimed 16th place (2:02.22). In the 100 breast, Wilson registered a fifth-place finish (58.29), Peter Jones placed 13th (1:00.17), and Ian Schirra swam to a 17th-place showing (1:00.27).

Rookie Austin Dodd earned the Mount's next-best placing of the day behind Twizell and Griffiths. Dodd took fifth place in the 200 fly (1:58.90) to lead the Mount in the event, while Carroll finished 11th (2:00.80), and Matt Hart took 16th (2:05.97).

In the 100 free, four Mountaineers finished among the top-20, led by Andrew Jones' 10th-place finish (48.15). Brock Cudahy claimed 13th (48.46), Jonathan Mata finished 17th (48.47), and Thomas de Xavier placed 19th (48.84).

Nicholas Starvaggi was the team's top-finisher in the 500 free, earning an 11th-place showing with a time of 4:55.48.

In the final event of the night, the 400 free relay, the squad of Peter Jones, Griffiths, Cudahy and Carroll registered an eighth-place finish in 3:12.38.

The Mount's next action is at the H2ounds Invitational hosted by Loyola on November 30 – December 1.
