Men’s Swimming & Diving Wraps Up Action at All-American Celebration Meet

Lynchburg, Va. (October 26, 2018) – The Mount St. Mary's men's swimming & diving team wrapped up action at the All-American Celebration Meet from Liberty University on Saturday. The Mountaineers fell to Old Dominion (271-72), Gardner-Webb (249.50-61.50), and BYU (293.50-49.50) at the meet.

During the opening day of the meet on Friday, Mount St. Mary's posted seven top-10 finishes in individual events, led by a pair from Will Twizell. The junior raced to seventh-place showings in both the 200 IM (1:58.18) and 100 breast (58.99) to continue his strong start to the season.

In the 100 back, Ryan Griffiths tied for seventh with a time of 54.31, while Jonathan Mata took ninth in the event in 55.11. The Mount also had two swimmers place top-10 in the 100 fly, with Ryan Carroll finishing ninth (53.42), and Thomas de Xavier posting a 10th-place showing (54.08)

Peter Jones notched the Mount's other top performance of the day, touching the wall in 22.33 in the 50 free to take 10th place.

The Mount's top relay teams registered fifth place in both events on Friday. The squad of Mata, Twizell, Carroll and Brock Cudahy registered a time of 1:37.39 in the 200 medley relay, and the team of John Wilson, Griffiths, Peter Jones and Cudahy combined for a time of 1:28.43 in the 200 free relay.

On Saturday, the Mountaineers posted six top-10 finishes in individual events to close things out.

Griffiths clocked in at 1:58.15 in the 200 back to set a new Mount St. Mary's program record and finish sixth in the event. Nicholas Starvaggi also earned a sixth-place finish in the 500 free in 10:42.74.

Cudahy and Twizell both earned eighth-place finishes on the final day. Cudahy registered a time of 49.22 in the 100 free, and Twizell touched the wall in 2:12.69 in the 200 breast.

The Mountaineers placed two simmers in the top-10 in the 200 fly, led by a ninth-place showing from Carroll in 2:03.58. Austin Dodd finished just behind Carroll with a time of 2:04.63 to take 10th place.

The Mount's top relay squad of Twizell, Peter Jones, Carroll and Cudahy swam to a sixth-place finish in the 400 free relay (3:15.83), while Griffiths, Twizell, Carroll and Peter Jones also came in sixth in the 400 medley relay (3:35.20).

Mount St. Mary's returns to action for its first home meet of the season on November 3 against Howard and Monmouth.
