Prior to Friday night's game, the Mount will honor goalkeeper Bobby Edwards with a ceremony as part of Senior Day. Edwards spent time as the starting goalie at Saint Joseph's and Monmouth before transferring to the Mount prior to the 2018 season. He's stepped up as a team leader and captain on this year's young Mount St. Mary's squad, and has started all 14 games in goal for the Mountaineers. Edwards leads the Northeast Conference with 5.21 saves per game, and ranks third in the league with a .768 save percentage on the year.
The Mountaineers currently sit in seventh place in the NEC standings with a 1-3-2 mark in league play and a 2-8-4 overall record. Last time out, they earned a 1-1 draw with Bryant at Waldron Family Stadium. Bryant struck for the game's first goal in the 10th minute of play off a Ben Williams header from the top of the six-yard box. The Mount was able to even things up in the 24th minute of play on Boris Nana Tonzi's team-leading fourth goal of the season. Gavin Shirley worked his way around multiple Bryant defenders and sent a short thru ball to Nana Tonzi, who went in one-on-one with goalkeeper Olivier Larente. Nana Tonzi deposited it into the lower right corner to knot the score up at 1-1. Following a scoreless second half, Bryant outshot the Mount by a 5-0 margin in the pair of overtime periods, but Bobby Edwards turned away both on-target attempts as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
