Mount Men’s Soccer Plays to 1-1 Draw with Bryant

Emmitsburg, Md. (October 19, 2018) – The Mount St. Mary's men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw with Bryant on Friday night in Northeast Conference action at Waldron Family Stadium. Boris Nana Tonzi scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season for the Mount in the match.

Bryant (2-7-3, 2-1-2 NEC) struck for the game's first goal in the 10th minute of play. Antonio Terceros passed it to James Chochrane deep in the corner, and Cochrane sent a cross into a dangerous area in the box. Ben Williams connected on a header from the top of the six-yard box for his third goal of the season to give the Bulldogs an early 1-0 advantage.

The Mount (2-8-4, 1-3-2 NEC) was able to even things up in the 24th minute of play on Nana Tonzi's goal. Gavin Shirley worked his way around multiple Bryant defenders and sent a short thru ball to Nana Tonzi, who went in one-on-one with goalkeeper Olivier Larente. Nana Tonzi deposited it into the lower right corner to knot the score up at 1-1.

With the game still tied late in the second half, Joel Tshiani made a bid for the go-ahead goal with just under 13 minutes showing on the clock. Andrew Robbins lofted a cross into the middle of the box, and Tshiani rose above the Bryant defenders to get his head on it, but his attempt went just wide of the right post as the game remained locked at 1-1.

Neither team was able to grab the go-ahead tally for the remainder of regulation, as the match headed into overtime.

Bryant outshot the Mount by a 5-0 margin in the pair of extra periods, but Mount goalie Bobby Edwards turned away both on target attempts, and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Edwards finished with five saves in the contest for the Mountaineers.

Mount St. Mary's hosts its final home game of the 2018 regular season next Friday (Oct. 26) against Robert Morris at 7 p.m.
