Sacred Heart Edges Men's Soccer, 1-0

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Sacred Heart scored in the 33rd minute to down Mount St. Mary's 1-0 in Northeast Conference (NEC) men's soccer action on Friday night.

Peter Steve (Dallas, Pa./Dallas) made six saves for the Mount (5-6-1, 2-3-0 NEC) while Chris Wheeler (Newcastle, Australia/St. Francis Xavier) registered three shots in the loss.

Brian Francolini posted the Pioneers' (6-4-2, 2-1-2 NEC) goal at 32:58 when he found the twine off a rebound. Alex Fait made one save in the winning effort.

Sacred Heart scored in the first half and held on for its fifth-straight win against Mount St. Mary's and its third-straight 1-0 decision against the Mountaineers.

The Mount had several chances score in the match, but could not convert. Wheeler missed wide at 7:27 for the squad's lone shot in the first half. Mount St. Mary's outshot Sacred Heart 3-0 in the second half. Wheeler missed high at 54:57 and then had his shot turned away by Fait at 57:26. Matthew Steele (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) gave the Mount its final scoring chance, but missed wide at 67:27.

Mount St. Mary's returns to action on Sunday at Bryant. Game time is 1 p.m.
