Vado Morse Named Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year

March 5, 2019—Mount St. Mary's freshman guard Vado Morse (Suitland, Md.) has been named the Northeast Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Year.  Morse also earned a spot on the league's All-Rookie team, announced today by the NEC.

A six-time NEC Rookie of the Week selection, Morse averaged 14.7 points, 2.9 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game this season.  Morse started 24 of 31 games played, and he shot 41.7 percent from the field, 35.6 percent from three-point range and 77.9 percent from the foul line.  Morse increased his numbers in league play, averaging 16.9 points, 3.6 assists and 3.2 rebounds in NEC games, shooting 43.8 percent from the field,  36.7 percent from three-point range and 75.8 percent at the charity stripe.

Morse scored in double figures in 18 of the Mount's final 20 games of the year, scoring 20 or more on seven occasions.  He recorded back-to-back games with a season-high 24 points against LIU Brooklyn at home and at St. Francis Brooklyn in late January.  Morse rattled off three consecutive 20-point efforts in early February as well.  He capped his freshman season with 23 points in the Mount's come-from-behind win at St. Francis Brooklyn on March 2.

Morse joins Chris McGuthrie (1992-93) and Shivaughn Wiggins (2012-13) as the only Mount players to be named NEC Rookie of the Year.  Morse is the 16th player in school history to earn a spot on the NEC All-Rookie team.

Mount St. Mary's finished the season strong, winning four of the final seven games to post a 9-22 overall record and a 6-12 mark in the NEC.
