The Mount St. Mary's University men's basketball team opens the 2016-17 season with an exhibition game against Hood College on Saturday, November 5, at 4:00 p.m. at Knott Arena.

THE MOUNT vs. HOOD: This is the second consecutive season that the Mount and Hood have played an exhibition game at Knott Arena. Last year, the Mount posted a 64-44 victory over the Blazers on Nov. 3. Gregory Graves paced the Mountaineers with 13 points and eight rebounds in the win. The Mount held Hood off the scoreboard for the first 7:20 of the game in taking a 12-0 lead. Four three-pointers over that span, including three from Graves, accounted for the Mount's points over that run. Junior Robinson had a solid showing at the point, tallying 11 points, six rebounds and three assists. Chris Wray chipped in five points, five rebounds and three assists with BK Ashe and Charles Glover finishing with eight points each in the victory. Hood was paced by Davon Hill's 11 points. NEC PRESEASON POLL: Mount St. Mary's was picked to finish in a tie for fourth in the annual Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. The Mount finished the 2015-16 season 14-19 overall and in fifth place in the NEC with a 10-8 league record. Mount St. Mary's lost to eventual champion Fairleigh Dickinson, 80-75, in the NEC Tournament semifinals.
SEASON OPENER: Mount St. Mary's begins its 108th season of basketball against West Virginia in the season opener on Friday, November 11, at 7:00 p.m. It is the third time the Mount has opened a season against WVU. The Mount faced West Virginia in the season openers in both 2006 (L, 50-42) and 2013 (L, 77-62).
ROAD TRIP: The Mount opens the 2016-17 season with its first nine games on the road. The opening part of the schedule includes games at No. 20 West Virginia, No. 24 Iowa State, Minnesota, George Mason, Southern Illinois, UT Arlington, Michigan, Arkansas and Loyola (Md.). The Mount's home opener will be Wednesday, December 7, against UMBC at 7 pm at Knott Arena.
