Mount St. Mary's is back in action at Maryland on Wednesday night. The Mountaineers are coming off an 85-76 loss to defending Northeast Conference champion Long Island on Saturday evening. Senior Danny Thompson poured in a career high 21 points, but the Blackbirds pulled away in the second half to earn the win.
Thompson hit 10-of-18 from the field for his 21 points while adding seven rebounds and a career-high four steals in the loss. He was one of five Mountaineers to score in double figures in the game. Raven Barber scored all 13 of his points in the second half while Lamar Trice, Julian Norfleet and Josh Castellanos each finished with 10 points. It was the first time since Feb. 13, 2010, that the Mount has had five players score in double figures in the same game.
It has become a balanced scoring attack for the Mount as five players are averaging double figures over the past two games (both conference tilts). Barber is averaging a team-best 12.0 points over that span with Kelvin Parker (10.5), Norfleet (10.5), Thompson (10.5) and Trice (10.0) rounding out the group.
Maryland defeated Notre Dame, 78-71, on Sunday to move to 4-3 on the year behind a 31-point effort from guard Terrell Stoglin. Stoglin leads the Terrapins in scoring at 22.4 points per game while Sean Mosley is averaging 11.0 points and 5.4 rebounds. James Padgett is the top rebounder at 6.4 per game. Maryland owns wins over UNC-Wilmington, Colorado, Florida Gulf Coast and Notre Dame this season.
Mount St. Mary's returns home to face longtime rival Loyola at 2:00 p.m. on Sat., Dec. 10, at Knott Arena. It will be the 167th all-time meeting between the two schools. The Mount then takes the week off for finals before heading to Penn State on December 18.
