The Mount St. Mary's Baseball Team Was Topped 9-4 By Sacred Heart In Home Season Finale

Emmitsburg, Md. (May 11, 2019) - The Mount St. Mary's baseball team was topped 9-4 by Sacred Heart in home season finale on Saturday afternoon at E.T. Straw Family. Freshman Trevor Leamer led the Mount after he went 3-for-4 with one run scored. 

Alex Kriss tallied two more runs batted in and one double on the day that moved his team leading season RBI total to 48 and his team leading doubles to 15. Myles Nicholson and Thomas Bramley added the two other RBIs of the ballgame for the Mount St. Mary's. Bramley filled the stat sheet with two runs scored, one RBI, and his fifth homer of the year. Eight different Mountaineers tabbed at least one hit in the loss. Ryan Florio and Andrew Malone combined to throw 3.1 shutout frames in relief for the Mount.

The Pioneers (18-29-1, 10-11 NEC) jumped on top early after they scored seven runs combined in the first four innings before Mount St. Mary's (15-34, 8-16 NEC) plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth that made it a 7-3 game. The Sacred Heart scoring was highlighted by two RBI singles from Austin Markmann and Justin Jordan, a two RBI single from Anthony Porrino, and a sacrifice fly RBI from Elijah Brown. 

The Mount scored their three runs in the bottom of the fifth off of a fielder's choice groundout from Myles Nicholson, and a two RBI double from Alex Kriss after they loaded the bases to lead off the inning. Zack Costello, Trevor Leamer, and Owen Wosleger all singled to load the bases with one out and Nicholson up to the plate.

Sacred Heart added two insurance runs in the top of the sixth before the Mountaineers nocked in their last run of the game in the bottom half of the eighth. Anthony Porrino came through again for the Pioneers with his second two RBI single of the game that extended the lead to 9-3. 

In the bottom of the eighth with two outs, Thomas Bramley unloaded on a ball over the right field wall for a solo home run that drew the Mount closer, 9-4. 

Anthony Porrino led Sacred Heart after he went 2-for-3 with four runs batted in on the day. Justin Jordan added a 3-for-5 day with two runs scored, and a RBI. Matt Aufiero started the game for the Pioneers and pitched 6.2 innings and only allowed three earned runs in the win. 

Matt Aufiero (2-0) recorded the win for the Pioneers while Michael Kuypers (3-5) picked up the loss for Mount St. Mary's.

The Mount heads to Penn State for the last regular season game of the year on Tuesday, May 14 at 6:30 PM.
