Patrick Causa's Second Home Run Of The Game Walks It Off For Mount Baseball Over Wagner 9-8

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 19, 2019) - Patrick Causa's second home run of the game walked it off for the Mount St. Mary's baseball team over Wagner 9-8 on Friday that evened the series at one win each. Freshman Thomas Bramley led the Mount offense after he went 2-for-4 with six RBI, two home runs, and two runs scored in the win.

With the two home runs, Bramley has now hit four homers in the last four games. Causa and Costello combined for six hits, five runs scored, three runs batted in, two home runs, and a double in the number four and five spots in the lineup. Sebastian Mieses tabbed his fourth double of the season. Cole Reeder earned his first win of the year after he pitched two hitless frames in relief. 

Trailing by one run in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, Mount St. Mary's brought two runs home to cross the plate for the walk-off victory. After Myles Nicholson and pinch hitter Sean Kelly recorded outs to begin the inning, Thomas Savastio hit a rocket over the shortstops head for a single. The next batter, Patrick Causa smashed a 0-2 fastball over the left center field wall to win the game.

The Seahawks (13-21, 7-7 NEC) struck first after they plated one run in the top of the first inning before the Mountaineers (12-25, 6-8 NEC) grabbed the lead after they scored four runs in the bottom half of the second. In the top of the second, Tyler Sanfillippo plated Will Johnson off of a RBI single to left field for the first run of the game.

In the bottom of the inning, Patrick Causa led off with a solo home run to left field that tied the game at one a piece. After Zack Costello and Alex Kriss each hit singles through the infield, the next batter Thomas Bramley drilled a three-run home run to left center field.

Wagner took a two run advantage, 6-4, into the sixth inning after they scored one run in the third and four more runs in the fifth. The scoring was highlighted by a two run homer from Freddy Sabido in the fifth, and a two RBI single from Tyler Sanfillippo in the fifth.

Down two runs, the Mount St. Mary's bats came through with three more runs in the bottom of the sixth that gave them a 7-6 lead. After Patrick Causa and Zack Costello each singled through the left side of the infield, the next batter Thomas Bramley hit his second three-run homer of the game that gave the Mountaineers the advantage again.

The Seahawks responded to take the lead again after they tallied two runs in the top of the seventh. Will Johnson hit a RBI single through the right side of the infield that brought Freddy Sabido home to score. Later in the inning, Tyler Sanfillippo plated the tying and go-ahead runs after he hit a two RBI double down the right field line.

Freddy Sabido, Will Johnson, and Tyler Sanfillippo led Wagner after they combined for eight of the team's 16 hits, all eight of the team's runs batted in, four runs scored, two doubles, and a home run. Anthony Pecora added three hits in the lead-off spot for the Seahawks in the loss. 

Cole Reeder (1-0) tabbed the win for the Mount and Ryan Lauk (1-3) picked up the loss for Wagner. 

The Mountaineers and the Seahawks will finish up the three game series tomorrow, April 20 at 1:00 PM.
