Patrick Causa's RBI Double In The Top Of The 10th Lifts Mount Over St. Bonaventure, 5-4

Port Charlottle, Fla. (March 7, 2019) - Patrick Causa's RBI double in the top of the tenth inning lifted Mount St. Mary's over St. Bonaenture 5-4 on Thursday afternoon. Causa recorded his third multi-hit game in a row after he went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in, a double, a run scored, and a home run to lead the Mount offense in the cleanup slot. Thomas Bramley tabbed the only other RBI of the game for Mount St. Mary's after he scored Thomas Savastio with a single. Owen Wosleger (1-for-1) had a big single in the top of the tenth. Michael Kuypers (2-0) earned his second win of the year after he continued his dominant pitching with five shutout innings to end the game. Kuypers pitched five innings, allowed no runs on just one hit, and struck out three batters.

After nine innings everything was all tied up 4-4, the Mount (5-4) and the Bonnies (1-3) headed into extra innings. With one out in the top of the tenth, Owen Wosleger hit a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch. The next at bat, Patrick Causa brought Wosleger home to cross the plate after he hit a RBI double to give the Mountaineers the 5-4 lead. The Mountaineers loaded the bases still with only one out but could not score more than just the one run on the inning. Michael Kuypers forced three straight pop outs in the bottom half of the tenth to close the door on the Bonnies and secure the win.

St. Bonaventure grabbed the early 4-0 advantage after just three innings of play before the Mount climbed back into the game in the top of the fourth inning. The Bonnies plated two runs in the bottom of the second and two more runs in the bottom of the third. Jeff Palczewski scored on a fielder's choice and Kevin Higgins was plated on a ground out to the pitcher for St. Bonaventure's two runs in the bottom of the second. The Bonnies scoring in the third inning was highlighted by two RBI singles from Tyler Kelder and Palczewski.

Causa led off the top of the fourth with his second home run of the season that started the scoring for Mount St. Mary's. With no outs, Thomas Savastio and Zack Costello completed a double steal that put them on second and third. Next at bat, Thomas Bramley brought Savastio home for the Mount's second run of the game. Costello ran home to score after Bramley was caught stealing trying to swipe second base.

The Mountaineers evened the game at 4-4 in the top of the eighth inning. With one out, Alex Kriss and Pat Daly hit back-to-back singles. Kriss was plated off of a RBI sacrifice fly by Causa for his third run batted in of the game.

With the win, Mount St. Mary's now holds a 4-2 record so far on the spring break Florida trip. The Mount closes out the trip with games against Central Michigan on Friday, March 8 and Ball State on Saturday, March 9.
