Betheseda, Md. (May 1, 2018) - Mount St. Mary's baseball dropped mid-week game at Georgetown 12-5 on Tuesday night under the lights. Mount junior Patrick Causa led the offense by going 2 for 3 (.667) with a double and a single while driving in all of the Mount's five runs in the game. Freshmen Matthew Kephart and Myles Nicholson each added one hit and scored twice in the loss. Jordan Geber and Nathan Seltsam combined to throw a scoreless eighth frame.
Georgetown put the first run on the board in the bottom of the first to take an early lead. After the first two batters of the bottom of the first inning reached second and third base with no outs, Eddie McCabe grounded out to the second baseman, Nicholson, that brought Jake Bernstein home to cross the plate.
The Mount took a two run lead, 3-1, in the top of the third inning. With one out, Matthew Kephart, CJ Kozorosky, and Myles Nicholson worked walks to load the bases. Later in the inning all three runners were driven in off the bat of Patrick Causa off of a three RBI double to right center field.
The Hoyas answered the Mountaineer's three run top half of the inning with a three run bottom half of the inning as well to regain a 4-3 lead. Ryan Davis and McCabe led off the bottom of the inning with a single and a walk before they both came running home off of a two RBI triple to right field off the bat of Alex Bernauer. Bernauer was plated later in the inning off of a sacrifice fly to left field by Ryan Davis for the third run of the inning.
Georgetown added four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a commanding 8-3 advantage after five frames of play. The Hoyas plated all four runs off of a groundout to second base and two singles. Bernauer grounded out with the bases loaded to score the first run of the inning while Ryan Weisenburg and Ryan Davis followed him with singles to bring the other three runs of the inning home.
Mount St. Mary's inched closer in the top of the fifth inning with two runs driven in off the bat of Causa. After Kephart singled down the right field line and Nicholson doubled to advance Kephart to third, Causa plated both of them off of single through the left side for Causa's fifth RBI of the game.
Georgetown scored three more runs in the bottom of the sixth and one more run in the bottom of the seventh to take a 12-5 lead. The Hoyas scoring was highlighted by a two RBI double from Bernauer, and a RBI single off the bat of Ryan Davis.
Jesse Archambault (0-1) received the loss for the Mount and Owen Lamon (3-3) picked up the win for the Hoyas. The Mountaineers drop to 17-24 on the year and Georgetown moves to 18-24 with the win.
Mount St. Mary's travels to Central Connecticut for a big four game series this weekend, May 4-6 with the first game beginning at 3 PM on Friday.
