Bryant's Pitching Silences Mount St. Mary's Bats In Doubleheader Sweep

Smithfield, R.I. (May 6, 2017) - Dennis Stewart had a multi-hit game in the first game of the doubleheader but Mount St. Mary's fell 12-1 to Bryant and could only record two hits in the second game of the doubleheader as Bryant won 11-0.

Game 1: Bryant 12, Mount 1

Stewart recorded two hits for the Mount but they were downed by Bryant 12-1 in the first game of the doubleheader. Josh Lenig had the only RBI of the game for the Mountaineers.

Bryant jumped out to the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first off of a Gasper single that plated Angelini.

The Bulldogs went on to score in the bottom of the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to take a 12-0 command of the game. The Bulldogs erupted for six runs in the third inning, one run in the fourth inning, three runs in the fifth inning, and one more run in the sixth inning. 

The Mount added their lone run of the game in the top of the ninth inning when Lenig hit a groundout to the short stop that scored Stewart on the play.

Seth Schubert (0-9) picked up the loss for Mount St. Mary's while James Karinchak (6-1) picked up the win for the Bulldogs.

Game 2: Bryant, 11, Mount 0

Jared Urban and Will Enrico recorded the only two hits for the Mount as they were topped by Bryant 11-0 in the second game of the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs scored at least one run in every inning except for the first inning of the game. Cruz started the scoring in the second inning with a double to left field that plated Ciliento and Cruz later scored on a throwing error that gave Bryant the early 2-0 lead.

BU went on to score one run in the bottom of the third inning, two runs in the fourth inning, two runs in the fifth inning and four more runs in the sixth inning to take control of the game 11-0.

Theetge pitched a complete game shutout while only giving up two hits while recording his seventh win of the season.

Michael Collins (1-7) received the loss in the decision for the Mount while Steve Theetge (7-5) received the win in the decision for the Bulldogs.

These two teams play another doubleheader tomorrow, May 7 with the first game starting at 12 pm.
