Two Grand Slams Helped Sacred Heart Muscle Past Mount St. Mary's

Emmitsburg, Md. (April 28, 2017) - Will Enrico had a 3-for-5 game and hit a two run home run but two grand slams helped Sacred Heart muscle past Mount St. Mary's 19-7 on Friday afternoon. Enrico, Jared Urban, Patrick Causa, and Vaughn Parker each had a multi-hit ball game and combined for all of the team's runs batted in.

The Pioneers jumped out to the early 3-0 lead on a three run home run by PJ DeFilippo in the top of the first inning. The Mount plated their first run of the game in the bottom of the second when Urban singled to right center field that scored Zach Hostetter.

Keith Klebart hit a solo home run in the top of the third for Sacred Heart to make it a 4-1 game. Enrico pulled Mount St. Mary's within one run on a two run homer to left field that scored Causa.

The Pioneers added two more runs in the next two innings, they scored two in the top of the fourth and two in the top of the fifth on a single, double, and a sacrifice fly.

The Mount pulled within one run, again, when they plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-7. With the bases loaded, Causa doubled down the left field line that scored Alex Kriss, Tanner Sampson, and Urban.

SHU exploded for 11 unanswered runs to close the game. They scored six runs in the top of the seventh, added one run in the top of the seventh, and four more runs in the top of the ninth. A grand slam by Ted Shaw capped off the top of the sixth inning and a grand slam from DeFilippo concluded the scoring in the top of the ninth for his second home run if the game.

Jordan Lawson (0-8) recorded the loss for the Mountaineers and James Taubl (3-6) recorded the win for the Pioneers.

The two teams will play a doubleheader tomorrow with the first game starting at 1 o'clock.
