Mount St. Mary’s Baseball Announces Team Captains for 2017 Season

Emmitsburg, Md. (November 16, 2016) – Seniors Jordan Lawson, Tyler Post and Will Enrico and junior Mitch Sgrignoli have been named team captains for the Mount St. Mary's University baseball team, as announced by Head Coach Scott Thomson.

"Jordan, Tyler, Will and Mitch will help guide this year's team back to its winning ways," said Thomson, who enters his 20th season at the helm of the Mount baseball program. "These four men have been instrumental in the success of the Mount program over their years here, and I look forward to watching them help lead us back to an NEC Championship."

Lawson, one of the Mount's top weapons out of the bullpen, returns for his fifth year with the team following an injury that cut his 2016 season short. The lefty posted his best season as a Mountaineer as a junior in 2015, registering a 3.83 ERA with five saves and 49 strikeouts in 47 innings pitched as he led the squad in appearances, saves and strikeouts.

Post returns for his senior season following a breakout 2016 campaign in which he posted career-highs in nearly every hitting category. The first baseman led the Mount in home runs (4), RBIs (25) and walks (29), while ranking second in runs (19), doubles (9), on-base pct. (.354) and slugging pct. (.392). Post's highlight of the season came in game one of a doubleheader at Fairleigh Dickinson as he hit a pair of homers, including a grand slam, and tied the Mount's DI record for most RBIs in a game (8).

Enrico, a catcher from Camp Hill, Pa., enters his second year with the Mount and first active season after sitting out the 2016 campaign following a transfer from Catonsville Community College. During his final season at Catonsville, Enrico hit .325 with seven doubles and 13 RBIs to go along with a .365 on-base percentage and .450 slugging percentage.

Sgrignoli enters his junior year with the Mount after spending his first two seasons as a utility player, appearing in 40 games combined through the 2015 and 2016 seasons.

The Mountaineers open the 2017 campaign with a four-game series at New Mexico State beginning on February 24.
